Whether you have just decided to quit smoking, or been trying for some time, its beneficial to get a bit of help and guidance. Naturally everyone is unique and different, and most people will have a different way to stop smoking that works the best for them. Hopefully these stop smoking tips will lead you in the right direction and help you to become smoke free for ever.
There are two basic ways to quit smoking. Going ‘cold turkey’ and weaning off. Each way works best for different personality types. So the first thing you need to do is determine which suits you best. Focus on the Quit Smoking Tips for the required technique.
Going cold turkey is simply STOPPING. One day, all the tobacco in the flat is thrown out, most of the lighters and matches follow (most people do keep one lighter around for candles on the holidays, but some just get rid of everything). Going cold turkey can be a spur of the moment impulse, and when it is, it rarely works. Committing to never pick up a smoke again, especially when you will be surrounded by ads on the telly and coworkers offering a light for the rest of your life, isn’t easy. If you want to go cold turkey, make sure you can make the commitment and stick with it. Going cold turkey works best for people who like short goodbyes and have little patience with unnecessary shenanigans. It can also be necessary for people with certain medical conditions.
There aren’t many stop smoking tips for after you go cold turkey, but some prep can make a big difference in your success. Firstly, don’t forget to let you family and co-workers know what you are planning. Ask them to keep their smokes away from you and not offer you any when they light up. A support system can make a big difference. Pick a distraction. Before you quit, pick out a couple of different distractions, for work, home, and when you are socializing. Any time you find yourself thinking of having a cigarette, use that distraction. Maybe anytime you want a smoke and you are at home, you can get a couple of biscuits and sit down with a book (most people who stop smoking add ten to fifteen pounds in the first couple of months. Don’t worry, it can come off later). Finally, ensure that you always keep in mind why you want to stop. That way, if you get tempted, you can easily say to yourself, “No I’m not going to because…..”
The one big stop smoking tip for cold turkey to implement after you stop, is that after years of smoking it is going to be difficult to get used to not having something in your hand and mouth. Right now, don’t even try to. Instead, keep a bag of hard candies on hand, or get one of the plastic ‘cigarettes’ or anything else that works for you to pop in your mouth once in a while.
Weaning off can be a lot easier and is in some ways much easier than going cold turkey. There is no nicotine withdrawal, no sudden change in habits. There a lot more options available to a smoker weaning off, and a lot more stop smoking tips that can help. The two most common means of weaning of are timers and alternative nicotine sources. Someone looking to wean off using timers starts by figuring out how often they smoke. Then they set a timer to go longer between smokes. When the timer goes off, they have a smoke, and reset the timer. Each day, or each week, they add five more minutes to the timer. Alternative nicotine sources are other ways of getting nicotine, such as gum or a patch. Using these tools lets you know exactly how much nicotine you are getting, and stops further intake of cancer causing chemicals.

The effects of smoking cigarettes can initially be quite harmless. At first people reckon it is OK to try it a little for a short while and give up later. Usually due to peer pressure and to fit in. This is just the start as smoking now creeps into not only your life but the life of your family and friends. The effects of smoking can be dangerous and painful for all involved. But the worst part of all this is that the effects of smoking are totally avoidable. It is a personal choice to Smoke!
If you smoke you would have already noticed, it takes a massive toll on your physical capabilities by restricting your lung capacity. This is awful as you’ll begin missing out on sport or recreational exercises and playing with your children or grandchildren. Don’t forget, too, that your family will all be missing this time with you as well: no one wins. And it gets worse: emphysema and cancer can ultimately be the result of all the lung damage. These diseases will leave you, not just on the sidelines, but in a hospital bed.
The next level of damage is inflicted on those around you- everyone around you. All those who come into regular contact with you, regardless of age or sex, such as co-workers to waiters. Even if they are non smokers, is in danger from the effect of you smoking. Tens of thousands of people die each year from second hand smoke. Fortunately, new laws have started to ban smoking in a lot of public places, helping those who work and play in our cafes, parks, museums, and bars. Perhaps the most tragic victims of second hand smoke, though, are not necessarily those who die from it after 30 or 40 years of exposure.
Children who have no choice but to breathe their parents’ or grandparents’ second hand smoke every day are at very great risk. Not only are their lungs getting just as contaminated, but their changing bodies are at a extreme risk of being jeopardized in their growth. Kids’ immune, respiratory, cardiovascular, and musculovascular systems are all on at risk in the face of second hand smoke, and they can’t do anything about it; young children can’t exactly move out and take are of themselves. If the effects of smoking don’t stop today; future generations will feel the sting of your bad habits.
Quitting is a major consideration for those worried about the effects of smoking on, not only themselves, but loved ones around them. The future is at stake for thousands of friends and strangers, but more importantly, for entire generations. If you don’t want strangers touching your baby or wouldn’t approve of your five year old eating food off of the floor, why would you let them breathe in some of the dirtiest air imaginable every day? To stop smoking is hard, but perhaps even more difficult having those around you battle with something they didn’t agree to.

Any smoker will tell you how hard it is to quit. Some say it is the hardest addiction to to conquer, some medical professionals say its even harder to quit then heroin. The reason why its so hard, is manly due to the substances found in cigarettes such as nicotine and all the chemical additives cigarette companies like to put in to keep people hooked.
But it is also hard because of the nature of the smoking habit. Needing a smoke for every occasion. The smoke with coffee in the morning, the smoke on the drive to work, the smoke break at work, the smoke after every meal, the smoke when your stressed, the smoke when your happy, the smoke when talking to someone etc.
It is still somewhat accepted in our society (although becoming less accepted more recently). So quitting can be extremely hard. We now know the harm smoking can cause, and the long term effects are severe and deadly.
So the motivation is available when you exam the outcome of years of smoking. There is absolutely no benefit to smoking. It is expensive and it is guaranteed to leave you breathless, with a long and painful journey of regret. So how do you quit?
Smoking Cessation Products May Help
Some people have had success using the patch or nicotine gum, such as nicorettes. It is recommended that you talk to your doctor to find the medication that is best suited for you, as well as combine counseling or group therapy with this approach.
Counseling and/or Support Groups
You can ask for help from professionals and counselors or join a support group, similar to AA. Support groups have had tremendous success for addicts.
Cold Turkey
Although this may seem like the hardest route, it also has a high success rate for those that can sustain for long periods of time.
Whichever way you choose, you may need to try quiting smoking a number of times before you feel you are no longer craving it on a daily basis.
More tips you may find helpful:
1. Make a plan - write down what you think are the harmful effects of smoking, also write down what you feel you will benefit or gain from quiting. Make a plan to quit for good. Pick a day to quit and prepare yourself to replace smoking with healthier choices such as exercise and healthy snacking. Know what triggers smoking and try to change the pattern.
For example, if you smoke with coffee in the morning, change to tea, if you smoke on work breaks, eat fruit instead, if you smoke at the pub with your friends, avoid that situation for awhile.
2. Don’t Carry Smokes or Smoking Tools - Don’t carry matches, or lighters, or cigarettes with you. Anything that helps trigger the need for a cigarette, must be thrown aside. You need all the help you can get to start triggering new habits, and discarding the nasty, deadly habit of smoking.
3. Start Exercising More - Replace the old habit of smoking out of boredom and dazing into space, with activity and fun. You basically have to start a new life. But a more adventurous and fun life. Join a sport, star doing yoga, run, start living and enjoy each fresh breath.
4. Recruit a Friend - Find a friend or family member that wants to help or wants to quit smoking as well. You will need someone who is close to you to encourage your new lifestyle and support the times that may be difficult.

Stopping smoking? These eight tips will be of considerable help in your gruelling battle to change your life. They might seem simple when you read them but begin implementing and you will know what it takes to stop smoking. We are sure you have read some thing on how to begin the process of quitting, if not read our earlier posts on the subject. Anyway, here are the tips to a smoke free life.
1. Most smokers don’t exercise. Begin by doing so. Begin a religious work out at an expensive gym. The money you pay for the membership will keep you from leaving and after a while you will enjoy the health benefits. You can start from a half an hour program of 2 to 3 times a week and then increase it to 5 to 6 times over a few months. However, seek advice from a physician before joining one.
2. Visit the dentist and get your teeth polished. After the stain removal, you will like the way you smile! Another incentive to quit. Plan to keep your teeth this way.
3. Visit the smoking area in your club or office and search for another person who is trying to quit. Two heads are better than one and this quitting buddy will be a big help for motivation and companionship.
4. There are two common ways of quitting- one is the gradual process and the other is the “Cold Turkey” method or the abrupt way. After a few weeks of quitting, you will realize which will work best for you. Stick to one however.
5. When you are on the journey of quitting, celebrate milestones. For example, after a week, eat out. After a fortnight, go to a party. After a month, go on a vacation. Celebrate your decision with these joys as they will then work like magic. You could even celebrate your “Quitting Anniversary” with a party.
6. Avoid things which trigger your desire to smoke. Go in for alternatives to keep in your hand, like straws, artificial cigarettes, or even a hand grip.
7. Drink lots and lots of water and fluids to cleanse your system of toxic poisons and nicotine remnants in your body.
8. Most importantly, don’t falter midway - finish what you started. Think of your milestones, achievements, the positive changes and many other things imparted to you after quitting smoking.

If you have discovered how fun and exciting boating can be, you are probably familiar with the wide selection of boating equipment that is available. The way that you plan on using your boat will largely determine the boat equipment you need.
Certain boats are used for short trips, while others are perfect for longer adventures. Take the time to research boats so that you can make the best purchase.
First, decide what you want to do with your new boat. Do you want to sit around in the evenings swapping fishing stories? If so, you will want a boat designed for day trips or overnight stays and one that is easily able to navigate waterways to reach the best fishing spots. Consider the all-purpose motor boats, a bass boat or even an air boat.
Perhaps you are a big fan of water sports. If so, you can have your pick of motor boats. They come in a number of sizes, shapes, and prices. Water skiing is one of the more popular sports. There are plenty of boats that will work well for that purpose.
If sailing is your passion, you may want to consider a cruising sailboat. These boats combine the excitement of sailing with the convenience of plumbing and cooking facilities. These boats are designed primarily for weekend trips or short vacations, but many are actually large enough to live aboard.
However, novice sailors or those with limited budgets may prefer a dinghy sailboat. These smaller, less expensive boats are perfect learning vessels and some even convert to rowboats.
If money is no object, you might want to invest in a houseboat or even a yacht. These large ships are graciously appointed with living quarters, plumbing and cooking facilities, and even mini-bars.
This type of ship is designed to be lived in for long periods. Some owners choose to forego other living accommodations in order to live full time onboard.
There is no one-size-fits-all determination of the best boat for any situation. You can get advice from other boat owners by visiting a boating forum. Also, read up on the different types of boats in a wide variety of boating books.
Make sure that you understand the different types of boats available including differences in motor types, facilities, and legal and insurance requirements. Do your homework before you go shopping for your new boat equipment.

Some confusion exists around what types of travel documents for cruises are necessary. Even different cruise lines sometimes seem to have conflicting information on whether passengers must obtain and carry a US passport. Much of this confusion has resulted from the changes that have been made in recent years to travel requirements in the United States. Different modes of transportation have different requirements. It’s important that you determine what types of travel documents for cruises are necessary, and to realize that these requirements may differ from air and land travel regulations.
In 2004 the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative was enacted. It was developed in agreement with the United States, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean region. Since a number of these countries share common borders, it became necessary to develop a standardized way of screening travelers in order to protect US borders. This initiative helps to strengthen borders without making it prohibitive for American citizens and legitimate foreign travelers to enter and leave the United States. The initiative legislates uniform standards for travel documents for cruises, as well as for land and air travel across borders.
The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative has been implemented in graduated stages since it was drafted in 2004. The first changes were made in 2007 and affected air travel only. Since that time all foreign air travel requires a US passport. The most recent change implemented in January of 2008 directly affected land and sea travel. Prior to this date, oral declarations of citizenship were accepted when crossing borders by land or sea. However, current regulations dictate that oral declarations are no longer acceptable. Currently all land and sea crossings require a US passport or WHTI compliant documentation. When the final phase of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative is enacted in June, 2009, most travelers will be expected to travel with a US passport or passport card (eligible for land and sea crossings only.)
What does this mean for travelers planning cruises between now and June, 2009? Acceptable travel documents for cruises which have ports outside of the United States include a US passport, a passport card, OR a government-issued photo identification card (valid driver’s license, military ID card, Native card, etc.) PLUS proof of citizenship (a US birth certificate or naturalization certificate.) Those travelers booking cruises for dates after June 1, 2009 will be expected to comply with the full set of rules for travel documentation. After this date, the only acceptable travel documents for cruises will be a US passport, a passport card, and limited forms of government-issued identification plus citizenship confirmation documents.
Some cruise ship companies have tightened their own rules regarding travel documents for cruises. A few have chosen to issue tickets only to holders of US passports or passport cards in an effort to expedite crossings and maintain security. Check with your cruise company to find out exactly what it recommends for documentation. Those who don’t have the correct travel documents for cruises may find themselves unable to board or disembark or even to return home in a timely manner.
In anticipation of the implementation of the final phase of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, the US government is urging all Americans who have not done so to apply for a US passport. While no further changes have been made to travel documentation requirements, there is speculation that a US passport may one day be a standard form of personal identification. Many countries, particularly in Europe and the UK currently require a passport for all types of travel, including domestic flights, and for checking into hotels. Experts feel that its logical that the US will someday follow suit in a worldwide effort to maintain secure borders.

3. Choose an insurance company that is financially stable. Ideally, one with a long history of service to yacht owners. Companies with a rich history are generally more stable than new ones. A good way to check the financial stability of an insurance company is to do some research. Check out the financial ratings of A.M. Best and Standard & Poor’s for insurance companies.

It is not advisable to accept low protection just to get a lower price. Make sure that you get the protection you and your yacht require.

10. The most important option is the physical damage coverage. This coverage will come in very handy if you hit another yacht, a submerged object or a dock and damaged your yacht’s motor. The physical damage coverage usually has two components:
a. Emergency services protection. This type of coverage provides protection of up to $100. It covers towing and mechanical labor if ever your yacht breaks down while you’re in the water. Also available is an extra emergency services as an optional coverage for an additional premium.
b. Physical damage protection for valuable yacht equipment. This type of coverage protects your valuable yacht equipments such as yacht covers, docking fenders, portable gas tanks, life jackets, anchors and anchor lines, sonar equipment, water skis, cushions, and your yacht engine, compass and gear. Also available is an extra yacht protection at an added premium. There is also on the road protection for your yacht, trailer and equipment. This also covers protection if ever your yacht, motor or trailer is stolen.

You would be surprised at the low interest rates you can get on loans only if you do the right bit of research to help with it. There are quite a few reasons why one has to get a loan insurance when you buy a yacht. In fact most of the financers will have this as a mandatory rule to give them security when they are financing a yacht.
There is a straight forward reason for this. In the event of the yacht getting damages while it is still under their finance, the policy of insurance would help cover at least a part of the damage expenses, and therefore give the lender security on your purchase. As with any kind of finance option you will want to keep your eyes open for the lowest insurance interest rate.
A few things to keep in mind when looking for an insurance policy
If you are getting a low interest rate on your yacht policy, it does not mean you have to compromise totally on the quality of the insurance deal and the coverage it gives you on your asset. If you get into a deal that hardly covers any damage for instance, it is only getting into a financial ditch, and that is not something you would want to do. We have put down a list of factors that you should use as a checklist while evaluating insurance quotations from various companies:
1) Consider the cost of the insurance as a primary factor. And consider the payment schemes - some will insist that you pay the entire premium in a single payment while others will accept it on installment plans. Most users are more comfortable with a monthly payment scheme.
2) Consider the type of insurance you are covered for. Does the quotation give you enough coverage for what id being charged? Have a clear idea of the current value of the yacht and consider if the insurance plan will be of help in any worst case scenario you may have to encounter. Not a very nice thought, but that is what insurance could save you from after all.
3) Consider the deductibles on the insurance policy. At times you can get a lower loan value if you increase on deductibles or from the payments you make out of your own pocket. But do not make the deductibles so high that you will not be able to pay the amount at times.
Make sure you make comparisons between a few quotations before you settle on the one insurance policy for your yacht. Try and get a deal that will give you the right balance between the low interest rate and the services offered. At the end of the day it is a matter of personal convenience.

People who take boat trips often fail to realize the potential disasters that can ensue if they are not careful and safe on-board their boat. Over 1,000 people die on boating trips per year, and many of the dangers associated with boating are easily preventable. In this article, we’ll give some tips to help you to avoid the potential pitfalls that one may wake while operating a boat.
- When it comes to fueling up your boat, be sure to turn off all electricity and do NOT smoke. Keep everybody except the person doing the fueling off of the boat until the process is completed, and be sure that all fittings are tightly secured when you are finished. Also, be sure not to fill your tank past its capacity.
- If your boat has capsized, it’s important to follow procedures to ensure the safety of all aboard. Remain calm, and ensure that everybody sticks together. Whenever possible, remain as close to the boat as you can, unless there is an inherent danger close by.
- Always be wary of alcohol consumption whilst on board. 9 out of 10 boating deaths are due to drowning and you are much more likely to fall out of the boat whilst intoxicated. Consequently, while under the influence, the body cannot efficiently warm itself as much as when you are sober. Also, intoxication can result in disorientation when under water, and you may not be able to determine which direction the surface is.
- If a fire takes place on board, the first thing that you need to do is stop moving the boat. The wind can whip the fire into a bigger problem than it already is. Turn off your electricity after radioing for help. If the fire is caused by wood, fabric, or another dry source, pour water on it. Oil and grease fires can be extinguished with an on-board fire extinguisher, and you should aim for the base of the fire while extinguishing.
- As silly as it may sound, many men drown in boating accidents due to the need to relieve themselves. They may lean off the side of the boat, hit a wave, and fall in. To alleviate this concern, it’s best to keep a jug on the boat which you can empty and wash in the water when you’re done. It can greatly decrease your risk of drowning while on-board.
Now that you know some of the basic methods for keeping yourself safe while out on the water, you can better protect yourself and your family. Be sure to follow all of the guidelines listed above, and you’ll be much more confident in your boating safety.
